Cypriot parliamentary elections 2026
On Sunday, May 24, 2026, Cyprus holds parliamentary elections to elect 56 members of the House of Representatives. A total of 568,587 registered voters are eligible to cast ballots across 1,217 polling stations, which opened at 7:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m., with a one-hour break at noon. Representatives for the Armenian and Latin religious groups were elected unopposed, while voting proceeds for the Maronite representative. Election Commissioner Elikkos Ilias confirmed the process began smoothly, with final results for parties expected between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and individual winners determined by early Monday morning. Candidates are strictly prohibited from engaging in illegal influence, including coercion, bribery, or the spread of false information, offenses punishable by up to 12 months in prison or a €1,000 fine. Analysts anticipate a shift in the political landscape with the entry of new parties such as ALMA, Idiatiki Dimokratia, and Volt, potentially impacting traditional parties like DISY, AKEL, and EDEK. Voting also takes place at overseas stations, including locations in Greece, Brussels, and London.
