Voting process in small rural communities of Paphos

The community of Kedares, located 40 kilometers from Paphos, operates one of the smallest polling stations in Cyprus with 66 registered voters. The polling station is situated at the Community Clinic. Grigoris Ioannou, the 75-year-old head of the community who has been in office since July 2024, highlighted that the village faces significant population decline due to urbanization. The residents are elderly, with the youngest aged 67 and the eldest 93. Historically, the school served 120 students, but current conditions reflect a much smaller, aging demographic. Separately, the village of Kouka reported that three voters—representing 6% of its 52 registered electors—had cast their ballots by 8:30 a.m. Both communities are dealing with challenges related to maintaining local activity and rural development.
