Petros Nakouzis elected as the new Maronite representative in the Parliament

On May 24, 2026, Petros Nakouzis was elected as the new representative of the Maronite religious group in the House of Representatives of Cyprus. He secured 1,606 votes, defeating his opponent Marios Mavridis, who received 1,519 votes. This contest was the only one held among the religious groups in the 2026 parliamentary elections. The final results reflected a narrow margin of 87 votes between the two candidates. Following this defeat, Marios Mavridis is set to permanently depart from the parliament. His departure ends a 15-year tenure in the legislative body, during which he served as a member of the Democratic Rally party representing Kyrenia.
