Odysseas Michaelides secures parliamentary seats for Alma party
On May 24, 2026, the Alma party, led by Odysseas Michaelides, entered the Cypriot Parliament with four to five seats following the legislative elections. With approximately 80-85% of the votes counted, the party secured over 17,000 votes, accounting for 5.8% of the total. During his address at the party headquarters, Michaelides positioned Alma as an opposition force, declaring his goal to end the 15-year political era associated with Nicos Anastasiades by 2028. While acknowledging that polls initially suggested a higher, double-digit percentage for the party, he noted that major political groups successfully reclaimed some of their voters in the final days of the campaign. Regarding parliamentary proceedings, Michaelides announced that Alma will initiate contacts with opposition parties to oppose the current government block, specifically excluding DISY, ELAM, and DIKO from these discussions. He emphasized that the party aims to serve as a pillar of stability and transparency in the new legislature. The election results also saw DIKO maintain eight seats in the Parliament.
