Developments in Cyprus problem negotiations and public infrastructure concerns
UN Secretary-General's personal envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, confirmed that a 5+1 meeting regarding the Cyprus problem will take place, though the specific date remains pending based on participant schedules. Following a round of meetings in Nicosia with political leaders including DISY President Annita Demetriou, Holguin plans to travel to Athens, Ankara, Brussels, and Colombia. President Nikos Christodoulides expressed cautious optimism, emphasizing that the focus of the UN initiative is to create the conditions for a conference that could lead to the resumption of formal negotiations. While the UN and EU are coordinating to encourage progress, Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman has stressed the need for pre-defined goals and content. Separately, President Christodoulides addressed local concerns regarding high-voltage pylons near the Adonis III housing project in Polemidia, Limassol. He confirmed that a meeting with the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has been arranged for Friday to address the residents' requests for the relocation of the infrastructure.
