Nicosia reports multiple fires and a major road accident on June 9, 2026

On June 9, 2026, the Cyprus Fire Service responded to multiple incidents in the Nicosia district. Firefighters brought under control a blaze involving a moving truck loaded with hay in Idalion, as well as a second fire that scorched eight acres of dry vegetation between Paleometocho and Kokkinotrimithia. Separately, authorities are investigating a fire that occurred on Monday at a vehicle body shop in the Kokkinotrimithia industrial zone, which destroyed two vehicles and damaged seven others. Additionally, a pile-up involving five vehicles occurred Tuesday morning on the Limassol-Nicosia motorway near Dali, triggered by debris on the road. The accident resulted in three people being hospitalized, with police currently searching for the vehicle that dropped the debris. All affected motorway lanes were reopened following clearance efforts. No injuries were reported in the grass and truck fires.
