Residents protest against Electricity Authority of Cyprus infrastructure in Pano Polemidia

Residents of the Adonis II residential complex in Pano Polemidia, Limassol, held a protest during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Adonis III complex, attended by President Nikos Christodoulides. The protesters expressed concerns regarding the proximity of existing and planned Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) infrastructure, including pillars and a proposed substation, to their homes. Residents claim they were promised the removal of these installations in 2021, yet current projects suggest further expansion. The residents argue these installations pose health risks to their families and report that they were not informed of the initial zoning permits issued between 2000 and 2011. President Christodoulides met with the protesters and stated that he had already contacted the EAC to request a design change, noting that the current proximity of ten meters to the nearest house is unacceptable. He scheduled a meeting between EAC representatives and the residents for the upcoming Friday to discuss the project's future. The President also requested a briefing from the Mayor of Polemidia, Andros Theodorou, regarding the historical handling of this issue.
