Limassol hosts first Transformed project community engagement symposium
The first Community Engagement Symposium of the Transformed project took place in Limassol, bringing together local authorities, universities, civil society organizations, and migrant communities from Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and Lebanon. Coordinated by the Anna Lindh Foundation and co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, the project aims to foster cooperation between municipalities and citizens to address issues like social inclusion, youth participation, gender equality, and migrant integration. The event was officially opened by Tatiana Tsietti of the cultural movement Epilogi, along with the mayors of Limassol, Amathounta, and Kourion. During the two-day symposium, attendees exchanged practices on how local governments can involve residents in policy design and service evaluation. Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis highlighted the city's multicultural character and announced the reactivation of the municipality’s Intercultural Council. This council is intended to provide a platform for diverse communities to interact and collaborate within the city. The initiative seeks to create open, participatory, and resilient Mediterranean societies through new communication channels.
