Cyprus announces voluntary return scheme for Syrian families
Deputy Minister of Migration Nicholas Ioannides has introduced a new plan to support the voluntary return of Syrian families to their homeland. The scheme, which runs from June 9, 2026, to October 30, 2026, applies to Syrian nationals and couples without children who requested or received international protection status before December 31, 2024. Under the program, one adult family member may remain in Cyprus with a two-year residence permit and labour market access valid until August 31, 2028. Returning family members are entitled to financial incentives of €2,000 per partner and €1,500 per child. Families already granted international protection receive an additional €1,000 incentive. Funding for these payments is primarily sourced from European programs. Applications can be submitted at Asylum Service offices, police migration departments, and the Pournara reception center. The policy aims to manage migration while facilitating safe returns for those not entitled to asylum.
