Limassol resident defrauded of 90,000 euros in fake car purchase
A 59-year-old resident of Limassol reported a major fraud case to the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today. The victim was defrauded of 90,000 euros while attempting to purchase a vehicle via an online trading application. According to the police report, the victim contacted a purported company to purchase a car, including shipping costs from a European country to Cyprus. He transferred the total sum to a bank account in a third European country as instructed by the alleged sellers. Subsequent online verification revealed that the company does not exist, confirming the transaction was a scam. The Economic Crime Investigation Office of the Limassol CID is currently handling the investigation. Police have issued a warning to the public to exercise caution when conducting financial transactions with unknown individuals or organizations online.
