Limassol residents protest against urban mobility project installations
Residents of Theklas Lysiotou and Emmanouil Roidi streets in Limassol appeared before the Municipal Council to protest ongoing works related to the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP). The protesters stated they were never consulted or informed about the project, which involves installing bollards that restrict parking and access to homes built in the 1970s and 80s. In response, Mayor Giannis Armeftis committed to holding a dedicated session next week, with representatives from the Department of Public Works expected to attend. Meanwhile, the Limassol Municipality is preparing to send a formal letter to the Ministry of Communications and Works requesting modifications to the project. The municipality clarifies that it supports the philosophy of the SUMP but seeks 10 specific changes, including a temporary suspension of bollard installation and the removal of obstructive elements. The proposed changes aim to improve traffic flow and replace rigid interventions with more practical solutions for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
