Pride march held in northern Nicosia

A pride march took place in northern Nicosia under the slogan "Love for the homeland, love for the world." Organized by the May 17th Committee, the event served as a platform to demand equal rights and inclusivity for the LGBTQI+ community. Participants highlighted persistent inequalities in access to healthcare, education, and employment. The organizers called for legal recognition of gender identity and more effective investigation of hate speech. Events associated with the pride week are scheduled to run until May 22nd. During a press conference at the Human Rights House, representatives described their efforts as a form of political resistance against polarization. Various Turkish Cypriot organizations, trade unions, and political parties issued statements of support. Additionally, the mayor of Famagusta displayed an LGBTQI+ flag at the municipal building in a show of solidarity.
