Cypriot and Montenegrin presidents discuss bilateral ties and EU accession
On May 18, 2026, President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides met with the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic in Nicosia. The meeting began with an official reception at the Presidential Palace, including an honor guard and the playing of national anthems. President Milatovic laid a wreath at the statue of Archbishop Makarios before the formal discussions began. The leaders focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in economy, investment, shipping, tourism, and entrepreneurship. A significant part of the dialogue addressed Montenegro’s EU accession process, supported by the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. President Christodoulides reaffirmed support for Montenegro’s European integration, emphasizing the importance of respecting sovereignty and international law. Both leaders agreed on the need to enhance joint efforts to improve living standards for their citizens and addressed stability in the Western Balkans.
