Police conduct nationwide security operations

Police in Cyprus carried out extensive overnight operations across the island to enhance public safety and prevent crime. Reports provided two differing sets of data regarding the intensity and outcomes of these measures. One set of data indicated 10 arrests, 580 vehicles stopped, 744 individuals screened, and 446 traffic complaints, including 212 for speeding and two for drunk driving. Another report stated there were 3 arrests, 638 vehicles stopped, 771 individuals screened, and 340 traffic violations, including 99 for speeding and 29 for driving under the influence. Premises inspections also varied, with one source reporting 48 inspections leading to 3 complaints and another reporting 57 inspections leading to 13 violations. Authorities impounded between 15 and 19 vehicles depending on the operational report. The police stated that these actions were part of ongoing efforts to suppress criminal activity through targeted checks and a heightened presence.
