Larnaca mayor Andreas Vyras impersonated in online scam

The Municipality of Larnaca has issued a formal warning regarding a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating Mayor Andreas Vyras. Unidentified individuals are using the mayor's name and photograph to solicit money and personal information from citizens. According to reports, the scammers claim to be acting on behalf of the government to establish a national solidarity fund for orphanages, promising tax benefits for donations of at least 200 euros. The messages, written in English, suggest that the perpetrators may be operating from abroad. Mayor Vyras has officially reported the incident to the police Cybercrime Unit. The municipality has urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid sharing financial or personal data, and to report and block the fake account immediately. Authorities are currently taking necessary steps to address the impersonation and mitigate the risk to the public.
