Developments on dangerous buildings in Paphos and Larnaca

In Paphos, officials from the District Self-Government Organization (EOA) and the police met to discuss the evacuation of a dangerous apartment building at the intersection of Nikolaou Ellina and Thermopylon streets. While EOA legal advisors believe an administrative license is sufficient to proceed, police maintain that a court order is required for mandatory eviction, with a final decision expected by Monday. EOA President Charalambos Pittokopitis noted that other buildings in Paphos are also being assessed by ETEK engineers. Meanwhile, in Larnaca, the roof of an abandoned building on Stavrodromiou street collapsed on Thursday, May 21. Emergency services and EMAK rescue dogs searched the site and confirmed no one was trapped inside. EOA Larnaca President Angelos Hadjicharalambous revealed the collapsed building was not in the official registry of dangerous structures, though the adjacent building was. Authorities are now planning a controlled demolition of both structures in the coming days.
