Recent police actions against drug and weapon trafficking in Nicosia
Nicosia police have conducted several operations recently, resulting in multiple arrests linked to drug and weapon offenses. A 33-year-old was arrested in connection with a case involving a 31-year-old, where 135 grams of cannabis, ecstasy, and cocaine were seized. Separately, a 34-year-old Turkish Cypriot and a 25-year-old Turkish national were detained with six pistols, nearly 300 rounds of ammunition, and narcotics, with police suspecting an arms smuggling network from the occupied areas. Another operation saw the arrest of a 23-year-old and a 24-year-old after police discovered 965 grams of cannabis in a basement. Additionally, two men aged 20 and 26 were arrested after authorities found 40 grams of cannabis and cash during a search. Finally, two individuals aged 19 and 22 remained in custody after police seized 230 grams of cannabis, 100 anabolic pills, and various weapons, including a pistol. Investigations into all these cases are ongoing, with the suspects scheduled for various remand hearings.
