Tourist dies after being crushed by elephant in India
A 33-year-old tourist died in the Kodagu district of Karnataka, India, following an encounter with elephants. The incident occurred at a wildlife park located on the banks of the Cauvery River during a supervised bathing activity. Two elephants, named Kanchan and Marthanda, became aggressive and began fighting while the tourist was in the water. Despite attempts by handlers to intervene, Marthanda lost its balance and fell onto the woman. She became trapped between the animals and sustained fatal injuries. Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre expressed condolences, and forestry officials have launched an investigation into the incident. The facility is currently reviewing its safety protocols regarding tourist interactions with elephants.
