Cyprus freezes assets of former Russian official Mikhail Yurevich

The Nicosia District Court has issued a charging order to freeze assets linked to former Russian politician and businessman Mikhail Yurevich, totaling approximately 3.17 million euros. The frozen assets include a 2.62 million euro luxury apartment in Mesa Geitonia, registered under Yurevich, and a 555,000 euro apartment in Germasogeia, reportedly belonging to his father, Valery Yurevich. This action was initiated by the Cyprus Police through MOKAS following an international arrest warrant issued against Yurevich for alleged bribery and corruption. Yurevich, the former governor of the Chelyabinsk region, had previously gained Cypriot citizenship in 2016 through the Cyprus Investment Programme. The Nikolatos investigative committee had raised concerns regarding his application, noting he had not visited Cyprus since 2001 and may have provided false statements. His Cypriot citizenship was officially revoked in 2024. The judicial order was made public as authorities have been unable to locate Yurevich for personal service.
