Cyprus national volleyball teams conclude mevza senior championship participation

The Cyprus national women's volleyball team concluded its campaign at the MEVZA Senior Championship in Maribor, Slovenia, on May 24, finishing without a win after a 3-2 loss to Luxembourg. Despite a competitive performance where they led twice, the team, coached by Stelios Masias, was defeated by Luxembourg in the tie-break with sets of 25-21, 14-25, 25-19, 22-25, and 8-15. Anni Prokopiou led the scoring for Cyprus with 17 points. Previously, the women's team suffered losses against Hungary, Croatia, and Austria. Simultaneously, the men's national team finished their tournament in Fonyod, Hungary, also facing Luxembourg in their final match on May 24. Coached by Louis Loizou, the men's team previously lost to Hungary 3-1 and suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat against Austria, where Nikolas Eleftheriou distinguished himself as a top scorer with 27 points. Both national teams aimed to end the championship with positive results following a challenging tournament schedule.
