Fire department training exercises in Larnaca and Vasiliko

The Cyprus Fire Service conducted and scheduled several training exercises to enhance operational readiness. On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, an exercise took place at the LAFS oil facilities located outside Larnaca Airport, simulating a fuel tank fire. During this drill, facility personnel triggered alarms, evacuated the area, and activated fire suppression systems before the Fire Service took control. Assistant District Fire Officer Marios Dimitriou confirmed that while the target structure was destroyed during the simulation, the focus remained on life safety and preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent facilities. Separately, the Fire Service announced an upcoming fire suppression exercise scheduled for Friday, May 22, at the Vasiliko Cement Works. These exercises involve the mobilization of fire vehicles in the affected areas. Authorities have notified the public in both cases that there is no cause for concern.
