Redesign of Limassol's Heroes Square set for completion in June

The renovation of Heroes Square in Limassol is scheduled to be completed by June 15, missing the original early-May deadline due to necessary restoration work on listed kiosks. The project, titled 'Square of Everyday Heroes', removes existing steps to create a fully accessible, step-free space. The design, by AA&U-Socrates Stratis and INB2in studio-Maria Hatzisotiriou, includes new features such as a 'Small Rialto', an 'Ideas Greenhouse', a toy library, and hanging gardens. The square features specialized flooring designed for rainwater harvesting. Additionally, the project improves the connection between the square and the Rialto Theatre and includes plans for partial pedestrianisation of surrounding streets. The construction contract was signed on August 5, 2024, between Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis and Christos Christou of An. Christou Constructions. The project is funded by the European Union under the THALIA 2021–2027 Cohesion Policy Programme with a budget of €3.9 million excluding VAT.
