Cyprus construction material price index rose in April 2026
The Cyprus Statistical Service reported that the construction material price index reached 120.67 units in April 2026, marking a 1.38% increase compared to April 2025 and a 0.64% increase from March 2026. For the period between January and April 2026, the index rose by 1.00% relative to the same period in 2025. Major categories driving the monthly increase include electromechanical goods (2.29%), metal products (1.81%), and wood products, insulation, chemicals, and plastics (1.76%). Specific items like asphalt concrete saw a significant annual increase of 20.34%, while asphalt paving rose by 10.70%. Conversely, structural mesh, central heating units, and air conditioning units experienced slight price decreases. While some reports link these rising costs to supply chain disruptions caused by the war involving Iran, others describe the growth as a steady, contained trend amidst surging building activity. Analysts warn that these price hikes could lead to insufficient project budgets and potential difficulties for contractors to fulfill existing agreements.
