Maritime sector marks International Day for Women in Maritime
Cyprus celebrated the International Day for Women in Maritime with a reception hosted by the Shipping Deputy Ministry. Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis emphasized that gender equality and inclusion are essential for the sustainability and future competitiveness of the shipping industry amid decarbonization, digitalization, and geopolitical challenges. During the event, Andreas Chrysostomou was awarded the Gender Equality Award in Cyprus Shipping 2026 for his contributions to inclusion. Separately, WISTA Cyprus, led by president Anna Pittalis, reaffirmed its commitment to increasing women's visibility and leadership. The organization highlighted the necessity of moving beyond mere recognition toward measurable progress in senior roles. Both the ministry and WISTA Cyprus stressed that diversity of experience is vital for the sector's resilience. The event underscored the ongoing effort to ensure that women are represented at all levels of maritime operations, both at sea and ashore.
