Rules for 2026 parliamentary elections announced by Chief Electoral Officer

The Chief Electoral Officer of Cyprus has issued strict guidelines for the 2026 parliamentary elections regarding conduct at polling stations. The use of mobile phones within polling stations is strictly prohibited for everyone except the presiding officer, who may only use them for official communication or necessary electoral procedures. Presiding officers are authorized to remove anyone violating this rule, and there is a possibility of arrest for offenders. Additionally, the establishment of election campaign offices and the display of election-related signs near polling stations are banned on both election day and the preceding day. Violations of these regulations are considered criminal offenses. Upon conviction, offenders face a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to €5,000, or both. Candidates are urged to ensure that all relevant promotional signage is removed in advance to comply with the law.
