Urban regeneration project for Ayios Ioannis parish in Larnaca launched

The Municipality of Larnaca signed a construction contract on May 18, 2026, for the regeneration of the historic Ayios Ioannis parish. The contract, awarded to Miltiades Neophytou Civil Engineering Contractors & Developers Ltd for €6,272,000 plus VAT, follows years of planning and delays caused by archaeological findings and sewerage infrastructure works. Construction is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026, with a contract duration of 24 months. The project scope includes road network reconstruction, pavement widening, undergrounding of utilities, installation of new urban furniture, and increased greenery. Additionally, the plan features pedestrianization of the core area, reorganization of traffic flow, and the creation of new public squares and parking areas. The initiative is co-funded by the Republic of Cyprus through the Department of Town Planning and Housing and the Larnaca Municipality. The project aims to improve urban functionality, accessibility for those with disabilities, and the preservation of historical landmarks such as the Church of Ayios Ioannis and the Tuzla Mosque.
