New legislation sets age limit and regulations for e-scooters in Cyprus

On April 22, 2026, two legislative amendments (N.106(I)/2026 and N.107(I)/2026) were published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cyprus, modifying the law regulating the use of bicycles and other personal mobility devices. A key component of these changes is the establishment of a minimum age requirement of 17 years for individuals operating e-scooters. The new regulations also define permissible areas for the operation of these devices and set strict construction and safety specifications for equipment. Furthermore, the legislation grants law enforcement authorities the power to seize devices in cases of legal violations. The operational framework for rental companies and the use of these devices has also been updated. Additionally, local municipal and community authorities have been granted expanded powers for the monitoring and management of personal mobility devices. These measures aim to enhance overall road safety standards across the country.
