Germany to deploy Patriot missile system and 150 troops to Turkey
Germany is deploying a Patriot air and missile defense system to Turkey to bolster NATO's southeastern flank. The operation involves approximately 150 German soldiers who will replace a departing American unit. Deployment is scheduled to begin in late June 2026 and will continue until September 2026. This mission follows reports from early March 2026 indicating that at least four Iranian ballistic missiles entered Turkish airspace, with one allegedly targeting the Incirlik Air Base in Adana, where U.S. forces and nuclear weapons are stationed. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated the move reflects Germany's commitment to burden-sharing and increased responsibility within the Alliance. The deployment is being conducted in coordination with Turkish and American military authorities as part of NATO’s integrated air defense framework.
