Wildfire brought under control in Koutrafas area

On May 19, 2026, a wildfire that broke out earlier in the afternoon in the Koutrafas area was brought under control by 2:58 PM. The fire burned approximately 1.5 square kilometers of land, consisting of stubble, wild vegetation, and olive trees. Initial response included two fire trucks from the Peristerona and Evrychou rural fire stations. Assistance was provided by the Department of Forests, which deployed seven fire trucks, one agricultural tractor, and one water tanker staffed by 28 personnel. Additionally, volunteer groups SOS and Atlas-Dias participated in the firefighting efforts. Firefighting forces remain on the scene to complete the final suppression of the fire. No injuries or structural damages were reported in the official statements regarding the incident.
