Rescue operations underway following building collapse in Gorlitz

On Monday, a historic 19th-century building collapsed in the city of Gorlitz in eastern Germany. Search and rescue teams are currently looking for three missing individuals: two Romanian women, aged 25 and 26, and a 47-year-old man of German and Bulgarian nationality. Authorities suspect that a gas leak may have caused the collapse, though an official investigation is ongoing. Rescuers are utilizing search dogs and working carefully by hand to avoid using heavy machinery, which could potentially trigger an explosion due to damaged gas pipes. Two other residents previously listed as missing were later confirmed to be safe, as they were out for a walk during the incident. Emergency services, including the German Red Cross, stated that operations will continue through the night. The search remains difficult as experts assess the stability of the ruins while looking for survivors in potential voids.
