Audit office monitors parliamentary election spending
The Audit Office of the Republic has established a monitoring system to verify the campaign expenditures of 752 parliamentary candidates. This initiative aims to ensure compliance with the legal spending limit, which is reported as €30,000 in some sources and €25,000 in others. The official campaign period began on February 24, 2026, and concludes shortly before the upcoming Sunday election. Candidates and advertising agencies are required to submit expenditure reports post-election for cross-referencing with data collected by auditors, including photographic evidence of advertising material. Reports indicate that the Audit Office has already received at least one formal complaint regarding excessive posters in a specific province. Several other candidates are under scrutiny for potential overspending on outdoor advertising. Expenses incurred prior to February 24 are excluded from these regulatory limits. The investigation seeks to identify potential violations of transparency laws through comprehensive data matching.
