Cyprus police finalize new headquarters location for Organized Crime Department

The newly established Organized Crime Department in Cyprus, which will house approximately 150 to 160 police officers, has selected a building on Ifigeneias Avenue in Nicosia for its permanent headquarters. The initial plan to house the department near police headquarters in a National Guard building was abandoned due to procedural difficulties. The chosen facility requires extensive technical and structural modifications to meet strict security protocols and operational requirements, leading to a delay in relocation. Currently, staff members are temporarily accommodated in another facility while the procurement process for these renovations is underway. Despite the housing transition, officials confirm that the department is fully operational. The unit recently recorded its first success with a coordinated operation in the Limassol district, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of significant evidence. Evaluation teams had previously reviewed several other properties in Nicosia but rejected them due to operational shortcomings or budget constraints.
