Russian deputy foreign minister warns of rising risks of conflict with NATO

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated in an interview with TASS that the strategic risks of a direct military confrontation between Russia and NATO are increasing. Ryabkov claimed that Russia is prepared to use military and technical means to counter perceived threats. He highlighted particular concern regarding the strengthening of NATO's nuclear capabilities, specifically noting France's plans to develop advanced nuclear deterrence. The Russian official argued that these actions require a response in Russian military planning. He characterized the warnings issued to Western capitals as efforts to moderate the actions of what he termed 'hotheads' in NATO. Ryabkov also asserted that there is currently no political or military foundation for dialogue between the two sides. He warned that any direct collision between Russia and the alliance would have catastrophic consequences.
