Local leaders support investment project in Trozena

On Tuesday morning, community leaders from the Limassol wine villages held a press conference in Arsous to express support for a foreign investment project in the settlement of Trozena. The meeting, attended by representatives of the investor's family and former property owners, was organized following recent public concern regarding reports of illegal construction work. Community leaders stated that the development is welcome as long as it adheres to all laws and regulations governing Natura 2000 protected areas. Giannakis Giannaki, the head of the Arsous community, highlighted that the settlement has been abandoned since the 1980s due to a lack of basic infrastructure such as electricity. Supporters of the project argued that the development could revitalize the local economy and help the surrounding villages overcome isolation. Conversely, some political parties and environmental movements have criticized the project and the decision-making process concerning the area's Natura 2000 status. Giannaki dismissed these reactions as being driven by electoral motivations rather than genuine concerns for the region.
