88-year-old man found alive at funeral home in Brazil

An 88-year-old man, Juraci Rosa Alves, was declared dead by hospital staff last Saturday following a severe respiratory failure. His body was transferred to a funeral home for burial preparations. While preparing the remains, staff members noticed abdominal movements and confirmed the man still had vital signs. Funeral home nurse Jacqueline Brogiato assisted in clearing his airways and requested emergency support. A doctor arrived at the scene, intubated the patient, and facilitated his transfer to a hospital in Presidente Prudente. The patient is currently in the intensive care unit in serious but stable condition. Local authorities have registered the incident as a case of failure to provide assistance, and an investigation into the hospital's protocols is underway. Family members had already initiated funeral arrangements before receiving news that the man was still alive.
