Etek proposes safety protocols for aging buildings following structural concerns

Etek president Constantinos Constanti has called for systematic on-site visual inspections of aging buildings to ensure structural integrity. This initiative follows a fatal apartment building collapse in Limassol that occurred last April. Etek has been guiding municipalities and local organizations in coordinating with qualified professionals to assess hazardous structures. The organization plans to hold a seminar within the next two weeks to standardize inspection procedures and gather feedback from practitioners. Furthermore, Etek has advocated for the creation of a centralized digital platform to document and track dangerous buildings, providing data access to local authorities and property owners. The municipality of Larnaca reports that 100 visual inspections have been conducted to date, with an additional 22 inhabited buildings identified as having issues. The proposed training aims to ensure uniform assessment standards across all future building safety checks.
