Neapolis University Paphos hosts forum on migration and human rights
On May 15, 2026, Neapolis University Paphos held an event titled 'Migration, Asylum and Human Rights: Memories, Routes and Integration'. The forum was organized to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UNHCR and the 1951 Geneva Convention. It was facilitated by Lecturer Katerina Papazacharia under the European University Alliance EMERGE framework. Key partners included the UNHCR office in Cyprus, the Human Rights Observatory, and the university's UNESCO and Jean Monnet chairs. University Rector Pantelis Sklias and UNHCR Cyprus Head Leslie Esther Velez delivered opening remarks. UNHCR Protection Officer Olga Komiti gave the keynote speech, focusing on the challenges and opportunities for refugees and asylum seekers in Cyprus. The event served as a platform for dialogue between the academic community and the public regarding UNHCR's current protection strategies.
