Turkey and Northern Cyprus announce plans for energy interconnection

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz and Northern Cyprus leader Unal Ustel met in Ankara to discuss energy cooperation projects. The discussions focused on establishing an electrical power link via subsea cable and a natural gas pipeline from Turkey to the northern part of Cyprus. Ustel stated that feasibility studies for the electricity project are complete, though he acknowledged bureaucratic challenges regarding licensing from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E). Both officials expressed confidence that these obstacles will be overcome with support from Ankara. The initiative also includes the deployment of mobile power generation units and the maintenance of existing energy infrastructure. Ustel described the project as a major development aimed at enhancing energy security and reducing costs for the region. The Turkish side emphasized that these efforts align with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's vision for the economic development of Northern Cyprus.
