European Commission condemns recent drone incidents in Lithuania

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has condemned recent drone flights over Lithuania, attributing direct responsibility to Russia and Belarus. These incidents triggered security alerts in Vilnius, forcing the country's leadership, including the president and prime minister, to seek shelter. The drone activity led to the temporary suspension of flights at Vilnius Airport. The alert was initiated after a drone was tracked moving from Latvia toward Lithuania. While European officials have blamed Russia and Belarus for endangering the safety of the eastern flank, Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasciunas initially stated that the origin of the drone remained unclear, noting that it was not yet known if it was Ukrainian. Von der Leyen pledged a strong and unified European response to these provocations.
