Earthquake of magnitude 3.2 recorded south of Cyprus

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the southern coast of Cyprus. The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported the tremor at approximately 16:00 local time. The epicenter was located 35 kilometres south of Limassol and 97 kilometres southwest of Nicosia, or alternatively 15 miles south of Akrotiri. The event had a focal depth of 8 kilometres, classifying it as a shallow seismic incident. The tremor was felt by residents in the Limassol area. As of now, there are no reports of damage or injuries, and authorities have not issued any official alerts. The region is known for frequent minor seismic activity due to its proximity to Eastern Mediterranean fault systems.
