Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games relay arrives in Cyprus

On May 20, the King's Baton Relay for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games commenced its tour in Cyprus. The relay began at Larnaca Airport, where it was received by Hermes Airports CEO Eleni Kalogirou in the presence of Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) officials, including George Papageorgiou. In Larnaca, the baton was passed from COC President Georgios Chrysostomou to Mayor Andreas Vyras, MP Andreas Pasiourtidis, and COC Secretary General Yiotis Ioannidis. A subsequent event was held in Paphos, where acting Mayor Angelos Onisiforou hosted the relay. World champion athlete Iosif Kesidis carried the baton in Paphos, which also featured performances by children from the Zeta Aemilianidou Multipurpose Centre and the Ktima Folkloric Group. The relay aims to promote values of unity, cooperation, and sport across Commonwealth nations. While initial reports highlighted the start in Larnaca and subsequent transit toward Nicosia, Paphos was also a major stop on the itinerary.
