Nicosia municipality to close Orfeos street for four months starting May 2026

The Municipality of Nicosia has announced the commencement of road construction works on the second section of Orfeos Street, stretching from the intersection with Dimitsanis Street to the intersection with N. Mylonas Street. The project is scheduled to begin on May 21, 2026, and will result in the street being closed to traffic for approximately four months. The construction scope includes the installation of flood protection systems and stormwater drains, as well as the reconstruction of the road surface. Plans also feature the creation of modern, accessible sidewalks and upgraded utility infrastructure. Additional measures include the implementation of new traffic regulations, improved road signage, and the formalization of roadside parking spaces. This initiative is part of the 'Appropriate Construction of Various Roads in Nicosia – Contract 23 City Center' project. The works are being carried out under the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan, with funding provided by the European Union's NextGenerationEU mechanism. Motorists are advised to follow temporary traffic signs and diversions during the project duration.
