Edek intensifies campaign efforts ahead of parliamentary elections
Ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, the Edek party is making a final push to secure its presence in the legislature by focusing on mobilizing traditional voters. On Wednesday night, party leader Nikos Anastasiou held a rally in Nicosia, urging supporters to rally behind the party's legacy, which he attributed to founder Vasos Lyssarides. Party officials believe that despite unfavorable numbers in some regions, the internal competition between candidates Morfakis Solomonidis and Marios Hannidis in Nicosia has boosted voter mobilization. Former party president Giannakis Omirou is also actively participating in the campaign to help the party remain in the parliamentary map. Anastasiou framed the election as a defining moment for the future of Cyprus, emphasizing that the party represents historical values against political fatalism. Critics note that while the party hopes for a second chance, its polling figures remain a challenge. The party's messaging highlights its role in Cypriot history, referencing its foundation in 1969 and its ideological commitment to national and social issues.
