ELDYK soldier hospitalized with meningitis in Nicosia
A soldier from the Hellenic Force in Cyprus (ELDYK) is currently intubated in the intensive care unit of Nicosia General Hospital after contracting meningitis. Christos Pieris, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, stated that the soldier’s condition is stable and improving, with a potential extubation scheduled for the following day. While initial reports indicated two other soldiers were under observation as suspected cases, subsequent updates confirmed that these two individuals were diagnosed with mild symptoms and are receiving preventative hospital care. The Ministry of Defense has implemented standard health protocols, including the disinfection of relevant camp facilities. All close contacts of the affected personnel have been identified, provided with medication, and instructed to wear protective masks. The soldier's family in Greece has been notified, and he has received visits from relatives currently in Cyprus. Additional preventive measures have been extended to other units beyond the ELDYK camp to limit potential transmission.
