Soldier hospitalized with meningitis in Nicosia

A soldier from the Hellenic Force in Cyprus (ELDYK) is currently in stable condition at the Nicosia General Hospital after being diagnosed with meningitis. While the patient was initially intubated, medical authorities are working toward his extubation. Three other soldiers from the same unit, who were initially hospitalized as a precaution, have been diagnosed with adenovirus via PCR testing and are expected to be discharged soon. A fourth soldier was also hospitalized preventively, bringing the total number of monitored individuals to four. In response to the diagnosis, authorities have imposed a seven-day quarantine on the unit, restricting leaves, personnel movements, and gatherings. Preventive measures, including disinfection and the administration of prophylactic medication to close contacts, have been implemented under the guidance of the Infection Control Center. Health officials noted that the patient had recently recovered from tonsillitis, which may have affected his immune system despite his vaccination status.
