European Maritime Day held in Limassol to address regional marine protection

The European Maritime Day was held in Limassol, Cyprus, gathering over 900 delegates and 45 exhibitors to discuss the protection of the marine environment in the Eastern Mediterranean. European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, and Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanoli, underscored the need for regional cooperation to combat issues like illegal fishing. Kadis highlighted the implementation of the Ocean Pact, which encompasses more than 90 policies and activities. Deputy Minister Hadjimanoli announced that over 200,000 euros have been allocated for initiatives aimed at pollution prevention. Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis emphasized the city's role as a regional maritime hub. Additionally, Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schinas, stressed the importance of sustainable fish stocks and coastal preservation for Greece, Cyprus, and Europe. The event focused on the horizontal integration of maritime policies to ensure long-term sustainability.
