Eurobank opens representative office in Mumbai and signs payment partnership
Eurobank has officially opened a representative office in Mumbai, India, becoming the first bank from Greece and Cyprus to establish a physical presence in the country. The event was attended by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, who emphasized the strategic economic partnership between India, Greece, and Cyprus. During the ceremony, Eurobank announced a collaboration with NPCI International to implement the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for cross-border transactions. This initiative aims to facilitate financial connectivity and support trade, tourism, and fintech innovation. Furthermore, the bank, in partnership with the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), has launched the India-Greece-Cyprus Business and Investment Council (IGC). These developments are intended to leverage the potential of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Eurobank stated that this move aligns with the broader trade agreements between the EU and India. President Christodoulides noted that the office serves as a testament to Cyprus's role as a gateway between Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.
