Cypriot party leaders cast votes and issue final statements in parliamentary elections

On May 24, 2026, political party leaders in Cyprus participated in the national parliamentary elections. Nikolas Papadopoulos, President of the Democratic Party (DIKO), cast his vote at the Second Primary School of Engomi in Nicosia, accompanied by his family. Papadopoulos emphasized the importance of ensuring the country's future, economic stability, and security for families. Meanwhile, Nikolas Prodromou, President of the Active Citizens – United Cypriot Hunters Movement, voted at the Primary School of Frenaros in the Famagusta district. Prodromou called on citizens to participate in large numbers, arguing that high turnout is necessary to achieve political change. Both leaders highlighted the need for voters to exercise their democratic right before polls closed at 6:00 PM. Papadopoulos also used the final hours of the campaign to advocate for DIKO's platform of responsibility, citing past economic recovery efforts as a basis for future growth. Prior to the vote, DIKO held a ceremony to rename its headquarters after the party's founder, Spyros Kyprianou.
