EasyJet reports half-year financial results impacted by rising fuel costs

EasyJet reported a 27% increase in half-year losses for the period ending March, reaching £377 million after taxes, with one source reporting adjusted losses of £552 million. Revenue grew by 12% to £3.954 billion as passenger numbers increased by 6%. The airline attributed these losses to rising jet fuel prices linked to conflict in the Middle East, estimating an additional £25 million in fuel costs. Despite the volatility, EasyJet noted an increase in capacity by 8% and a 90% load factor, reflecting improved operational efficiency. The easyJet holidays division recorded a profit of £61 million, supported by a 22% growth in customers. Management maintains a strong financial position with £4.7 billion in liquidity and £434 million in net cash. While there is short-term demand uncertainty, the company plans to continue its disciplined growth strategy through its current fleet and service expansions.
