APOEL financial situation and future management update
APOEL FC president Charis Fotiou recently disclosed that the club's existing debt stands at 39 million euros, with additional projected deficits of 5.5 million euros for the 2025-26 season and approximately 9 million euros for 2026-27. Fotiou emphasized that the total funding requirement by May 2027 will reach 14 to 15 million euros beyond the current debt. During a May 23, 2026, interview, he revealed that negotiations regarding an investor, specifically Savvas Liasis, are ongoing, stating that the next 15 days will be critical for the club's future. Regarding organizational changes, Alessandro has left the team, and a new structure involving a football director, a technical director, and a scout is being implemented. Fotiou clarified that there is no official involvement from the Savvidis or Marinakis families, and noted that 4 million euros in obligations have been settled since his administration took office on February 17. The club currently faces eight legal appeals, two FIFA-imposed transfer bans, and is attempting to resolve six additional pending cases. Fotiou also reported a 23% reduction in the current season's budget through cost-effective player acquisitions.
